DR Minister of Sports offers welcome dinner to FIVB EC & Board


PUNTA CANA, Dominican Republic, April 14, 2010 – The Minister of Sports & Recreation of Dominican Republic offered a welcome dinner in honor of FIVB President Mr, Jizhong Wei and all the members of FIVB Executive Committee and Board of Administration who have been holding their annual meetings in Punta Cana, a tourist resort in the eastern part of the Dominican Republic.

 

Mr. Felipe Payano had the chance to greet and exchange ideas and sport anecdotes with Mr. Wei and the rest of the renowned volleyball leaders. He shared a table with Mr. Wei, FIVB 1st Executive Vice President Mr. Cristobal Marte Hoffiz, 2nd Executive Vice President Theofanis Tsiokris, FIVB Treasurer Mr. André Meyer, and FIVB Executive Vice President Dr. Saleh Ahmed Bin Nasser.

 

“On behalf of the President of the Dominican Republic, Dr. Leonel Fernández Reyna, I wish all of you a pleasant stay in our country,” said Mr. Payano during his welcome speech. “I hope you enjoy our beautiful country”.

 

Mr. Payano was introduced by Mr. Marte who pointed out the fact that the Minister is a former basketball player who represented the Dominican Republic in many international competitions.

 

“The Minister of Sports and I are former athletes, I was a bad volleyball player and he was a good basketball player,” Mr. Wei joked. The he added: “We are very grateful of the warmth hospitality of the Minister of Sports and all the people of Punta Cana.”

 

During the dinner, President Wei presented Mr. Payano with a carven golden plaque showing the FIVB premises in Château Les Tourelles, in Lausanne, Switzerland.
